Meet Naomi Laurin

Helpers need help too.
I have always enjoyed connecting with and learning from others; this has driven my passion for mental health support for many years. Before completing my Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work and during my undergraduate studies in Psychology, I worked with my local rural fire department as a paid-on-call firefighter for nearly 8 years. I was consistently humbled throughout my experiences by the resilience and camaraderie engrained in first responder culture. I believe in the importance of having clinicians who 'get what we do', ultimately leading me to combine two of my passions (firefighting & mental health) and become one.
Although a career as a first responder can be extremely rewarding, it can also be exhausting and overwhelming. I aim to create a safe, inclusive and understanding environment where you can be your authentic self, and all parts of you are welcomed.
I am a registered EMA-FR and remain actively engaged with my department, allowing me to continue learning and understanding first responder service. My approach is client-centred, strength-based, collaborative and trauma-informed. I lean on the most up-to-date research specific to first responders' mental health, as well as the voices of clients and fellow first responders to inform my practice. My specialties include trauma treatment (PTSD, ASD, C-PTSD), Mood disorders (Anxiety & Depression), Identity & Addiction issues, Individual & Organizational stress and Burnout.
Modalities: EMDR, Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Processing & Restructuring, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
